Monika Bright

Monika Bright studierte Zoologie und Paläontologie an der Universität Wien. 2001 erhielt sie von der Universität Wien die Lehrbefugnis für die Fächer Meeresbiologie und Zoologie. Momentan ist Bright ao. Universitätsprofessorin am Wiener Department für Meeresbiologie sowie seit 2004 stellvertretende Leiterin dieser Einrichtung. Neben der Meeresbiologie zählen vor allem mikrobielle Symbiosen zu ihren Fachgebieten. Bislang veröffentlichte Monika Bright 60 Artikel in internationalen Journalen; sie war Editor des Handbook of Deep-See Hydrothermal Vent Fauna. Brights Tätigkeit ist immer auch international ausgerichtet: So absolvierte sie beispielsweise 3 Postdocs in den USA und Deutschland sowie ein Sabbatical in Spanien, war an der Organisation mehrerer internationaler Konferenzen beteiligt und repräsentiert weltweit tätige Institutionen wie beispielsweise die International Society of Symbiosis oder die International Society of Meiobenthology. Forschungsaufenthalte führten Monika Bright unter anderen ans Rote Meer, den Pazifik, in die Antarktis, nach Puerto Rico, Belize und in die USA.
