Helmuth Gsöllpointner

Helmuth Gsöllpointner (geboren 1933) besuchte zunächst die Stahlschnittschule in Steyr, dann die Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Wien. 1955 gründete er die Abteilung für Metallplastik in den Lehrwerkstätten der VÖEST in Linz, die er bis 1985 auch leitete. Ab 1963 übernahm Gsöllpointner die Leitung der Klasse für Metallplastik und Industrial Design der Kunstschule der Stadt Linz, der heutigen Kunstuniversität; 1973 wechselte er in die Leitungsfunktion der Meisterklasse Metall. Als Rektor der Hochschule wirkte Gsöllpointner von 1977 bis 1981. Zwischen 1971 und 1976 war er zudem Leiter der Künstlervereinigung MAERZ. Einem größeren Publikum ist Gsöllpointner vor allem durch die Konzipierung von Ausstellungen wie „Forum Metall“ (1977) und „Forum Design“ (1980) bekannt geworden. Er erhielt zahlreiche Preise, darunter die Kulturmedaillen der Stadt Linz (1992) und des Landes Oberösterreich (2005), den Theodor-Körner-Preis (1968) und den Kunstwürdigungspreis der Stadt Linz für Design (2000). Das Große Goldene Ehrenzeichen für Verdienste um die Republik Österreich nahm Gsöllpointner aus Protest gegen die Regierung nicht an (2000). Gsöllpointner ist Ehrenmitglied von Design Austria und Ehrensenator der Johannes Kepler Universität Linz.
