Arnold Hanslmeier

Arnold Hanslmeier (geboren 1959) studierte in Graz Astronomie und Physik und promovierte 1982. Danach absolvierte er zahlreiche längere Auslandsaufenthalte (Deutschland, USA, Frankreich). Im Jahre 1991 erfolgte die Habilitation. 2005 wurde er zum Universitätsprofessor für Computational Astrophysics an der Karl Franzens Universität Graz berufen. Er ist Leiter der Abteilung Geophysik, Astrophysik und Meteorologie des Instituts für Physik, an dem er gleichzeitig stellvertretender Direktor ist. Seit 2000 unterrichtet er regelmäßig als Gastprofessor an der Université Paul Sabatier in Toulouse. Er absolvierte insgesamt 30 Beobachtungsaufenthalte, darunter am Observatoire de Haute Provence, Frankreich, Observatoire Pic du Midi, Frankreich, Observatorio del Teide und Observatorio Roque de los Muchachos, Spanien. Von Hanslmeier erschienen bis jetzt ca. 250 wissenschaftliche Publikationen und sieben Bücher, davon drei auf populärwissenschaftlichem Gebiet. Seit 2005 ist er Präsident der Joint Organization of Solar Observation JOSO, Vizepräsident der österreichischen Astronomischen Gesellschaft und Mitglied der New York Academy of Sciences.
