Claus Pias

Claus Pias studierte Elektrotechnik, Kunstgeschichte, Germanistik und Philosophie in Aachen, Bonn und Bochum. Danach war er als wissenschaftlicher Assistent für „Geschichte und Theorie künstlicher Welten“ an der Bauhaus Universität Weimar tätig und promovierte mit einer Arbeit zur Geschichte des Computerspiels. Es folgten Lehrtätigkeiten in Basel, Karlsruhe, Bochum und Essen. Pias ist Fellow des IFK Internationales Forschungszentrum Kulturwissenschaften Wien, des IKKM Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie Weimar und des Wissenschaftskollegs Berlin. Seit 2006 hat er eine Professur für „Erkenntnistheorie und Philosophie der Medien“ an der Universität Wien inne. Zu seinen Forschungsschwerpunkten gehören die Geschichte und Theorie der digitalen Medien sowie die Wissenschafts- und Technikgeschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Seit 2008 ist er Mitglied des Kepler Salon Advisory Boards.
