Hooshyar Khayam

Hooshyar Khayam is an Iranian musician. He is active as a composer, pianist, conductor, and producer. His compositions are contemporary classical, contemporary jazz, Persian/world music, and he is also composing music for film, animation, dance, and theater.  Khayam’s music has been performed by many artists and ensembles such as Hossein Alizadeh, Zsofia Boros, Isabel Villanueva, Golfam Khayam, Elina Bertina, Artur Avanesov, Stephen Prutsman, Anja Lechner, the Morrison Trio, and the Kronos Quartet among others.  With his piano concerto “Before the Dream is Over” he was the finalist of the “Queen Elisabeth International Competition” for composers (2013), for his trio “I Waited for You in Rain” he won the first prize of the international composing competition “Franz Schubert and Modern Music” (2011), he was the finalist of the international “Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition“ (2013); with “Tatari”(2007) he was the winner of the “Culture and Music Critic’s Prize“ for “Tehran’s best album of the year”, and he was a 4-star winner of “Top of the World Albums” by Songlines Magazine (75th issue) for his album “All of You” (with Amir Eslami, 2011) as distinctive music of the Middle East. Khayam is the founder and producer of Tehran Records, an independent record label dedicated to the contemporary music scene in Iran.

Khayam has his BM in Persian Music, University of Art, Tehran; his AD in Piano Performance, Trinity College, London; and his MM and DMA in Composition, College-Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati. He lives and works in Tehran as an independent artist.
