Wolfgang Winkler

Wolfgang Winkler (b. 1945) started by studying horn at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Graz before switching to music and medicine at the University of Graz. In 1973 Winkler joined the ORF Studio Steiermark as a freelance journalist; a year later he founded the Styrian branch of the Internationale Gesellschaft für Neue Musik (IGNM) together with Gösta Neuwirth. In 1978 he switched to the Brucknerkonservatorium Linz. A year later Winkler became Head of Light Music at the ORF Landesstudio Oberösterreich. Since 1998 he has been CEO and artistic director of LIVA. In this capacity he has been responsible for instance for all the Klangwolken [Clouds of Sound] since 1998. Winkler also holds the post of producer at the Salzburg Festival; as such he is regularly involved in CD productions featuring world-class musicians. In addition to this he has teaching posts at the Anton Bruckner Universität für Musik und Medien and at the Johannes Kepler Universität Linz. Since 2007 he has also been responsible for the management of the Anton Bruckner Institut Linz.
