Michael Frank

Michael Frank (born 1947) trained as a journalist at Deutsche Journalistenschule in Munich. Having joined the staff of “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, he worked as a news editor, critic and copy writer, e.g. on development politics. In the course of his work he came to see Central Europe, in the old, fairly narrowly defined sense, as one of the most history fraught regions of the continent and has been reporting on this part of the world as one of the paper’s correspondents since 1986, based alternately in Prague and in Vienna. He has been awarded the Joseph-Roth prize and the “Golden Pen” for the advancement of German-Czech understanding.
